Farm Description
Turkeyfoot farm is a small Certified Naturally Grown farm focused on human scale farming, regenerating the land, building soil, and enhancing biodiversity. We grow organic, nutrient dense produce for our community. We are located at the tip of Lake Michigan at the edge of where the ice age glacier ended. We are 90 minutes out of Chicago and 10 minutes from Lake Michigan beaches. The farm is 10 acres with three quarters of an acre in veggie and greens production, an acre in fruit guilds, five acres in wetland forest, and 16 acres of off farm meadow for our pasture raised chickens, goats, and turkeys. We market to local restaurants, health food stores, a CSA, and local farmers markets. TurkeyFoot Farm is owned and operated by Ry Hook. It is on the same homestead as Hook Pottery Paper, his parents and teachers.
Farm Values
We focus on the diversity and abundance of life as the basis of health in our plants, ourselves, and our customers. The farm’s economic health, ecological integrity, and role in the community are all connected.
Guiding Idea
In Iroquois society, leaders encourage one to remember seven generations in the past, and consider seven generations in the future when making decisions that affect people.
